Samsung Vietnam smartphone factory expected to shut down for 15 days
South Korean media ET News reported that Samsung is expected to suspend operations at its Vietnam factory, which is manufacturing Galaxy series smartphones, for about 15 days. Regarding the reason for the suspension of operations, ET News reports that the slump in sales of the Galaxy series smartphones is affecting it.
Is the reason for inventory reduction due to sluggish sales?
The shutdown of the Vietnam factory, which is manufacturing the Galaxy series smartphones, is expected to last from mid-December 2022 to January 2, 2022, for about 15 days.
ET News also reports that operations will be suspended at the end of November and an inventory check will be carried out.
Regarding the reason for the suspension, ET News expects it to adjust for sluggish sales of Galaxy series smartphones and inventory buildup.
It is unusual to stop operations at this time for the launch of the Galaxy S23 series, but it seems that inspection and repair of the production line for the same model will also be carried out on this occasion.
60% of production in Vietnam
Manufacturing bases for Galaxy series smartphones are concentrated in Vietnam, with 60% manufactured in the country in 2021.
Samsung is believed to be planning to diversify from Vietnam to other countries in the same way that Apple is trying to disperse its iPhone manufacturing base, which is concentrated in China.
