New AI-Powered Technology to Combat Semiconductor Chip Counterfeiting

Researchers at Purdue University, Indiana, have developed a groundbreaking solution to combat the burgeoning problem of semiconductor chip counterfeiting. Their innovative technology, known as RAPTOR, leverages deep learning and an optical marker composed of gold nanoparticle patterns embedded on chips.

This method, detailed in the journal Advanced Photonics, can detect tampering by analysing these unique nanoparticle patterns, distinguishing between malicious alterations and natural wear and tear. It effectively protects against “malicious package abrasions, compromised thermal treatment, and adversarial tearing,” according to the researchers.

With the semiconductor industry valued at $500 billion globally, the issue of counterfeiting has become a significant concern, contributing to a $75 billion counterfeit chip market that threatens various sectors reliant on semiconductor technologies. RAPTOR’s ability to detect tampering with a 97.6% accuracy rate makes it a promising tool for safeguarding the integrity and security of semiconductor chips across industries.

We are thrilled to share that Mark Shanley, our Global Sales and Marketing Director at Astute Group, has been selected to speak at the Land Forces 2024 Hub! This exclusive platform allows a select few from industry, academia, and government to present their insights and solutions to pressing questions facing the land defence community.

Mark’s keynote, titled “Navigating the Risks: Counterfeit Electronics Components and Their Impact in Supply Chain,” will delve into the critical issue of counterfeit components—a growing threat to the integrity and security of defence systems. With his extensive experience and unique perspective, Mark will explore the prevalence of these components, the dangers they pose, and effective strategies for safeguarding supply chains.

Join Astute Pty and Mark Shanley at Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition 2024 and don’t miss this opportunity to gain invaluable insights from one of the leading experts in the field.
