ECIA Taps Don Elario for Global Industry Practices Council
ECIA announces Don Elario will lead its new Global Industry Practices Council, as Vice President of Industry Practices. The GPIC replaces the Supply Chain Council, as announced previously.
“Don Elario brings a wide array of skills to this very important initiative,” explained Victor Meijers, ECIA senior vice president. “His career spans 40 years in the industry, with stints in manufacturing (semiconductors, military and aerospace products) and the last 30 years working in electronic distribution. His responsibilities incuded purchasing, production, sales, product marketing, operations, logistics and quality,” he continued. “This breadth of experience will enable him to guide the newly conceived Global Industry Practices Council into its more proactive, problem-solving role in the industry,” he predicted.
Elario’s leadership credentials include initiatives such as warehouse consolidations and expansions; designing, building and implementing automated warehousing; developing an order quality process using “Perfect Order”; and designing and leading the implementation of an enterprise global quality management system. He has served 20+ years on various ECIA councils and committees and eight years on the Board of Directors for a non-profit organization serving quality of life in Northern Nevada.
“Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate, with multiple opportunities to participate in developing the latest methods and process technology in the electronics industry,” commented Elario. “Having a unique passion and drive for customer service and operational excellence, I’ve worked on many successful programs to advance best practices and efficiencies in our industry. I look forward to applying these experiences to help address and solve industry challenges in this new role with ECIA.”
About the Global Industry Practices Council (GIPC)
Through a non-competitive, collaborative effort, the ECIA GIPC will work to recognize common, global problems and issues and formally organize to discover, leverage, guide and improve operational efficiencies throughout the electronic components global authorized channel. Its structure comprises seven Subject Matter Expert (SME) groups addressing industry issues such as international trade compliance, and operations. SME Group members will be recruited from both within and outside the ECIA member community to identify and tackle issues on an ad hoc basis. For example, if a specific industry challenge requires participation from the semiconductor or end customer community, people who have the knowledge and authority to solve the problem will be actively sought. The goal will be to enable the Council to both take a leadership role in reducing inefficiencies in the global authorized channel and to be nimble and responsive to the industry.
The seven SME Groups are Customer Experience, IT Security/Testing, International Trade Compliance, Business Process Operations, Logistics Services, Environmental Compliance, and Quality. Next steps for the Global Industry Practices Council will be to populate the SME Groups with leaders and group members who have the creativity, experience and knowledge to bring about real change.
