Dynamic EMS Apprentice Program Aims to Address Skilled Labor Shortage

Meet Lewis Aide who joined Dynamic EMS as Modern Apprentice in September 2016.

At this time Lewis joined the Dynamic EMS team to undertake an Apprenticeship in Engineering, delivered in partnership with Fife Council and Skills Development Scotland. Fast forward to September 2018 and Lewis is about to embark on his next challenge, under the care of Dynamic EMS.

With his sights set on a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Herriot Watt University, Lewis will start his four-year journey, one which he hopes will end with not only a qualification but also a role in engineering within Dynamic EMS.

This is a day release programme, supported and sponsored by Dynamic EMS and Skills Development Scotland to help Lewis achieve his career success while encouraging Dynamic EMS to achieve their goals and growth.

Lewis has held a variety of roles during his time as Dynamic EMS’ ‘first apprentice’, which he appreciates, but is now hungry for more.  He’s proactively working towards industry experience and believes that it makes sense to further his education and achieve a qualification to back up the hands-on skills he has gained during his time at Dynamic EMS.

John Dignan, Managing Director at Dynamic EMS commented, “We realise the importance of developing skills and giving individuals every opportunity possible in securing a bright future.  Lewis will be able to combine on the job experience and gain an industry recognised qualification.  We couldn’t be prouder of Lewis, and in a paternal way, we want to continue to nurture him.”

Victoria Bonnar, Human Resources Manager at Dynamic EMS added to John’s statement by commenting; “There is a real skills gap issue in electronics manufacturing, combined with an ageing workforce.  At Dynamic EMS we are encouraging our ‘Dynamic People’ to think outside of the box, to help us to attract and develop the next generation of technology talent.  We recognise that in an evolving and fast-paced electronics manufacturing industry there can sometimes be a difference between the skills required to perform a specified job, and the actual skills that team members possess.  This is why we continuously invest in training and development, we are encouraged and enthused when someone like Lewis shows loyalty and commitment to not only us, Dynamic EMS but also to himself.  We wish Lewis well, but he knows he’s not on the journey alone, he has the full support of our 100 Dynamic team members.”
