Apple Eyes Local Partnership To Resume iPad Manufacturing in India
Apple is actively seeking local partnerships to resume production of iPads and AirPods in India. This move supports Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its global supply chain.
California-based Apple has significantly ramped up iPhone production in India, assembling a substantial $14 billion worth of iPhones in the fiscal year 2024. Apple is gearing up to manufacture iPads and AirPods in India and is actively seeking local manufacturing partners. Apple’s move to expand its local manufacturing capabilities not only aligns with the Indian government’s push to strengthen domestic supply chains. This is also a part of its expansion strategy to diversify production beyond China and reduce dependency on Chinese suppliers.
Along with the push to start manufacturing iPads, Apple is also planning to start production of AirPods, its popular true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones, in India from early next year. This will be the second Apple product manufactured in India to follow the iPhone. Apple has initiated trial production of AirPods’ wireless charging case components in Pune with Jabil- an American contract manufacturing company.
Apple is ramping up local production of its flagship iPhone models in India with Foxconn and Tata Electronics. The goal is to manufacture a significant portion, targeting a quarter of all iPhones in India within the next three to four years.
