European PCB Industry Loses Two Companies

PCB company CSI in Toulouse, France, a sister company of Cimulec, was the victim of a fire on the night of Friday July 26 to Saturday July 27. This was a devastating blow for the employees of this small company specializing in the manufacturing of printed circuits for aeronautics. They were unable to return to work this past Monday, July 29.

On the night of Friday July 26 to Saturday July 27, a fire ravaged the industrial site of the CSI company in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). Of the two main buildings on the site, the first was completely burned, the second was more lightly damaged. Since the equipment was destroyed by the flames, the employees could not return to work. The factory manufactured printed circuit boards. It is now out of service. “The equipment in the two buildings was necessary for the manufacture of the parts which are made here. The disappearance of one of the two buildings now makes it impossible to exploit the site and therefore with immediate effect, the site is inoperable,” said Eric De Ponthaud, the general director of CSI.

According to the Estonian Electronics Association, Brandner PCB, the last remaining PCB manufacturer in Estonia (Paide, center of Estonia, southeast of Tallinn) will shut down in late November. The company sent letters to all customers advising that no orders will be accepted after November 22, 2024, and informed the Employment Office of the planned layoffs. The company has for the last couple of years had relatively stable revenues (2020 2,45 Mil. Euro; 2021 2,65 Mil. Euro; 2022 2,76 Mil. Euro; 2023 2,34 Mil. Euro) with no big dip during covid. Net Profit dropped from 13.2% in 2022 to 1.6% in 2023. The company employs 27 people.
