The Reading Room – What’s the SCOOP?

After hijacking a space on EMSNOW’s homepage while I guest edited the publication, their esteemed editor, Jennifer Read, has kindly allowed me back on a weekly basis to share some of what I am watching, reading and even listening to. So, here’s a few things I’ve enjoyed this week, some of which you will see among my regular posts on LinkedIn.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK: I am a big TEDtalk fan, and this one entitled Hackers: the internet immune system, is a real standout, viewed by your truly and more than two million others, exploring the role of hackers in innovation and particularly in cybersecurity. The beauty of hackers, says cybersecurity expert Keren Elazari, is that they force us to evolve and improve. Yes, some are bad guys, but many are working to fight government corruption and advocate for our rights. By exposing vulnerabilities, they push the Internet to become stronger and healthier, wielding their power to create a better world.

PODCAST OF THE WEEK: Nice job Mike Konrad and Brian D’Amico, great podcast, great conversation. I particularly like where Brian suggests the hybrid inspection machine of the future might include x-ray technology! Check out the latest episode of Reliability Matters.

That’s it until next week! For more regular musing connect or follow me on LinkedIn or Twitter.
