The appointment of Paul Richardson as Purchasing Manager.

On the 1st of November 2017, SMS – Smart Made Simple, leading Electronics Manufacturing Service Provider (EMS), headquartered in Nottingham, UK, welcomed Mr. Paul Richardson as their Purchasing Manager.

Mr. Richardson holds 17 years of experience, accrued through various supply chain and procurement positions across Retail, Distribution, Manufacturing, and Engineering. During this time, Mr. Richardson has worked for both large corporate global brands, such as The Disney Store, multi-nationals, such as Boots, and regional organisations, such as DCI Artform and the Brush Group. These environments have equipped Mr. Richardson with a unique understanding of how companies of varying size and geographical coverage function, and how they operate their planning and buying departments in accordance with customer/market demand.

On his appointment, Mr. Richardson commented; “I have spent the last 10 years focussing on the procurement of; injection moulded plastics, metal and plastic fabrication, and latterly, electronic components. Over the past 12 months, we have seen the purchasing of certain electronic components move into a state of flux. As lead-times have stretched, shortages have become a challenge, and we are encountering the allocation of high demand parts. One of the reasons that this new role within SMS was so attractive to me from the outset, is that you can physically see and feel the strong relationships that the SMS buyers have with their suppliers. For over 15 years, SMS have developed a robust supply chain network which stands on the foundations of trust, respect and complete transparency. This enables SMS to work closely with their customer, the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), to demand plan their forecast cycle in accordance with their end-users needs. It’s complete fulfilment from concept, to creation, through to commercialisation.”

Mr. Richardson is excited about what his future holds at SMS, a company where he will have a direct impact on the day-to-day business performance, and as the company grows, Mr. Richardson can already see how his new role will progress. “I am enthusiastic to be given the opportunity to implement some of the strategies and systems that I’ve witnessed working well in a number of roles that I’ve managed. Quite simply, my goal is to enable production to operate as efficiently and effectively as possible by ensuring we have a systematic approach to managing our current and future supply base.” Mr. Richardson concludes.
