HTC scores solid sales revenue of NT$10.934 B. in May

The Taiwan-based High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC), a world-caliber vendor of own branded handsets, raked in better-than-expected sales revenue of NT$10.934 billion in May, according to company sources.
HTC has recently shipped its HTC Diamond, a new 3G (third generation) smartphone in HTC Touch family, to Europe and Asia, and is expected to
smoothly score second-quarter revenue of NT$34 billion, with NT$22.7 billion already achieved in April and May.
HTC's May revenue grew by 36.82% from NT$7.992 billion posted last May, but dropped 7.7% from April's NT$11.85 billion. The brand posted aggregate revenue of NT$55.488 billion for the first five months of this year, up 36.38% form NT$40.685 billion of a year earlier.
Institutional investors said the slip of the brand's May revenue from April was something inevitable, because consumers' wait-and-see attitude toward launch of the new phone between the two months would definitely cause its sales to drop temporarily. However, Apple Inc.'s aggressive move to renew sales contracts with telecom companies to launch its new edition of iPhone all over the world may probably threaten HTC's promotion of hot-selling HTC Diamond.
So far, HTC has landed orders for HTC Diamond from quite a few telecom companies, including Orange, O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone. It has also announced a plan to unveil Touch Pro soon, which is similar with HTC Diamond in look and adoption of a QWERTY keyboard and suitable for business people.
The Touch Pro has reportedly been adopted by two European telecom companies, including T-Mobile, which has decided to launch the phone under a name, T-Mobile MDA Vario IV, at the end of this summer. Also, Germany's O2 has already unveiled the new phone and is going to add the phone to its Xda-branded product lineup.
